Assists the consultants and specialists with medical diagnosis and treatment of patients, in accordance with current medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations and the hospital’s policies and procedures. Gains certain skills and techniques related to the subspecialty, that are used to provide required patient care.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Assists the consultants in providing required patient care and management in accordance with standards of medical care laid down by KFSH&RC.

2. Complies with all hospital standards and policies pertaining to acceptance, eligibility, admission processes, consultation, daily patient care, operating room, outpatient practices, and patient discharge.

3. Follows a structured program of rotations under the direct supervision of the consultant or specialist and makes use of every opportunity to learn.

4. Assists with provision of medical diagnosis, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures / surgery and treatment of patients, if credentialed to do so.

5. Prepares and evaluates medical histories of patients and performs physical examination on patients. Documents clinical findings after physical examination of the patient, under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor (or a delegated physician).

6. Presents findings to consultant staff for review and critique.

7. Learns about specialized diagnostic techniques, therapeutic equipment and procedures.

8. Assists the consultants and participates in patient care activities including ward rounds, pre-operative care, surgical procedures, post-operative care, etc., under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor (or a delegated physician).

9. Attends to on-call duties as per the on-call schedule.

10. Writes referrals to other specialties as per directions of the Clinical Supervisor (or a delegated physician).

11. Helps the consultants to screen patients in the clinics.

12. Attends teaching programs, medical conferences and meetings.

13. Presents case studies to medical staff.

14. Participates in clinical, basic and translational research projects and publishes papers in accordance with Research Advisory Council policy.

15. Participates in departmental meetings and continuing medical education (CME) sessions, while ensuring that the attendance does not compromise any patient care activities and responsibilities.

16. Behaves in an ethical and professional manner and observes the rules and regulations of the department, the hospital and the laws of the country.

17. Undertakes self-evaluation and completes an evaluation of each rotation to provide feedback.

18. Responds to the hierarchical structure of the assigned department and understands the inter-relationships of the department with other departments and services in the hospital.

19. Ensures patient safety and reports any untoward incidents, unsafe equipment or situations to the Clinical Supervisor.

20. Fosters professional relationships with the patients, families and colleagues within a climate of mutual understanding. Appreciates cultural differences inherent in a multicultural society.

21. Assists the hospital in the development and implementation of techniques and practices that help maximize the utilization of resources.

22. Abides by the current hospital and medical staff bylaws, all relevant rules, regulations and policies and keeps himself/herself updated of any changes that might occur.

23. Participates in self- and others' education, training and development, as applicable.

24. Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.


Graduation from an approved School of Medicine is required.

Experience Required

Completion of the required internship is required.
