Endocrinology and Metabolism

This is a two-year fellowship training program.  The trainee has extensive exposure to the whole spectrum of clinical endocrinology and diabetology.  Endocrine oncology including thyroid cancer, neuroendocrine tumors and pituitary tumors are among the major strengths of the program. The program also includes metabolic bone disease and diabetes care with recently initiated insulin pump program.

Generally, the candidate would have extensive exposure to the common endocrine conditions and other endocrine conditions that are considered rare in other places. The trainee takes primary responsibility in inpatient consultations, endocrine admissions and the outpatient clinics. Different endocrine dynamic testing is run by fellows in a special clinic under supervision.  Regular weekly educational activities are scheduled around most of the year, and the trainee will have the chance to present on a regular basis. Combined educational activities with Radiology and Pathology & Laboratory departments are regularly scheduled.

The program takes advantage of great opportunities available in the Hospital, including the state-of-the art radiology and advanced nuclear medicine techniques, CT-PET scanning, high-resolution ultrasonography and interventional radiology. The molecular diagnostic laboratory is of special help for some of the hereditary metabolic or neoplastic disorders.

The availability of the most sophisticated hormonal assays is another unique advantage of the fellowship training program at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre.

There are many opportunities for clinical and basic research for fellows to produce excellent research papers under the supervision of the staff.
