General and Minimally Invasive Surgery

General and Minimally Invasive Surgery Service is very active with more than 1,000 operating room cases per year.  The program offers a two-year fellowship.  There is opportunity to manage a large variety of interesting and complicated cases, including emergency cases, inpatient emergencies and consultations, and clinic referrals.  The service deals with surgical management of the following areas among others: upper GI tract, abdominal trauma, abdominal hernia, and the surgical treatment of morbid obesity.

Rotations with other subspecialties also complement the clinical experience. There is also opportunity for minimally invasive hands-on practice and research in the Animal Facility of the Research Centre. On completion of this fellowship program, the candidate is expected to be a safe and competent surgeon who is up-to-date with the latest technological advances and techniques in surgical care of the concerned areas.
