Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology Department

 

Introduction:

The Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology Department (ICHE) at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC) in collaboration with Training and Development Department is committed to training interns for three months.

 

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of the program, each intern should be able to provide comprehensive infection prevention and control services that meet the hospital objectives with supervision:

  • Ability to respond to surveillance of infections based on the infection control surveillance plan for assigned inpatients and ambulatory care units.
  • Works with staffs in the clinical setting to identify patient care requirements concerning infection prevention and control.
  • Provides education for health care workers (HCWs), visitors, patients, and their families on infection prevention and control needs.
  • Monitor individual compliance with existing infection prevention and control policies, criteria, or regulations.
  • Aware of the process of communicating communicable disease statistics to the Ministry of Health (MOH) on a weekly and monthly basis and in cases of certain infections (e.g., MTB, MERS-CoV, COVID-19, .etc.) epidemics daily according to the policy.
  • Performs rounds to all patient care and non-patient care areas for case findings and supervision of environmental factors.
  • Introduces all necessary measures to prevent the spread of infection or organisms highly resistant to antibiotics.
  • Collaborates with other members of Outbreak control team in investigating the epidemic of infections.
  • Perform appropriate follow-up of employees who have unprotected exposure to diseases for which specific protocols exist.

 

Duration:

Three (3) months

 

Acceptance criteria:

  • Internship request letter from Intern’s sponsor
  • Saudi national or borne from Saudi mother only
  • GPA 3.75 out of 5 or 3 out of 4 or above
  • English Proficiency Exam (TOFEL iBT) score of 84 and above, or equivalent
