Dr. Al Qasabi: The Overall 5-Year Survival Rate of Colon Cancer Patients at KFSH is 79%

His Excellency, Dr. Qasim AlQasabi, Chief Executive Officer of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (General Organization) emphasized that the overall 5-year survival rate of colon cancer patients after receiving treatment at King Faisal Specialist Hospital is 79% which is comparable to those reported by Centres of Excellence in British, American and German clinical trials.

His Excellency stated the above in his opening speech at The Annual International Saudi Colon & Rectal Diseases Forum in the Kingdom Hall at the Four Seasons Hotel.  His Excellency also stated that in the latest report issued by the Colon & Rectal Cancer Registry in the year 2011, 1033 cases were recorded; with an increase of 135% compared to the number registered 10 years earlier. 

Dr. Al Qassabi emphasized that this national, regional and international forum lays the foundation for a robust collaborative network of professionals and healthcare providers and a platform to exchange ideas, share knowledge and draw on each other’s’ expertise.

Dr. Luai Ashari, Colorectal Surgery Consultant at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh and head of the Organizing Committee, clarified that the forum was established in collaboration with the Saudi Colon and Rectal Surgery Association.   In this forum, 32 specialists contributed from inside and outside the Kingdom.  They delivered 32 lectures specialized in advanced colon diseases, latest trends in treating colorectal tumors, how to support advanced nursing sector in this field and the importance of spreading awareness among specialists with regards to the acceptable standards for the management of colorectal diseases.
