Stating 80% Growth in Research Projects over the last 10 years

Dr. Al Qasabi: KFSH’s Research Centre publishes over 400 research studies in International Scientific Journals

 

H.E. Chief Executive Officer of King Faisal Specialist Hospital And Research Centre, Dr. Qasim Al Qasabi, stated that 2015 was one of the most productive years in terms of research in KFSH&RC, given the publication of 400 researches in reputable scientific journals. Dr. Al Qasabi added that the research projects during the last year reached 200 projects, which represent 80 percent growth compared to 2005, a part thereof, equals SR 30 million, was funded by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology.

During the opening of Annual Research Report Event, Dr. Qasim Al Qasabi expressed his pride in KFSH&RC “General Organization” for the achievements of the Research Centre and applauded at the efforts exerted by the team, which include the launch of Medical Diagnosis Centre, the accomplishment of goals of Quality Management System for radiant isotopes, the treatment conducted by the Medical Biologic Physics Department to more than 2,000 patients with cancer conditions during last year, leading to about 3,500 measuring doses and planing clinical treatments, the successful completion of National Survey of Mental Health for 3,000 family with more than 75,000 check-ups for new-born to detect those with metabolic disorders and last but not the least Pre-Clinical Studies using 5,000 small and big animals at Comparative Medicine Department.

Dr. Qasim Al Qasabi praised the efforts and alliance between the Research Centre and many leading health care providers and research facilities worldwide such as the University of Southern California, University of Oxford, Harvard University, University of Michigan, University of North Carolina and Cleveland Hospital, along with the support and assistance rendered by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology to Research Centre.

On the other hand, Dr. Khalid Abu Khabar, Senior Principal Scientist and  Deputy Executive Director, Research Centre at KFSH, emphasized the need of establishing research centers attached to heath facilities in order to raise awareness about the importance and significant role of applied science researches to uplift the quality of health care. Dr. Khalid said that the quotes taken from KFSH&RC’s researches have reached 17 for each research, which exceeds the global average of 12. Furthermore, KFSH&RC has published many researches about immunotherapy of cancer against viruses, and cardiac and genetic diseases at the level of the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics.

Dr. Abu Khabar stated that the integrated research environment and international reputation has played a vital role in choosing the Research Centre to be the host of Training Laboratory and the Key Partner in Saudi Human Genome Program, affiliated to King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology. He said that this has already started to pay-off through finalizing the description and documentation of mutations leading to the genetic diseases in the Saudi community. He indicated that the Research Centre has published many researches last year, which added new information regarding the mechanism of illnesses and identification of new roles of biological genes and patterns related to a number of diseases such as cancer, genetic cardiac, contagious and metabolic diseases.
