Under the Slogan “Eyes on Diabetes”

“KFSH&RC” organizes an awareness day on the occasion of the World Diabetes Day

Endocrinology Department, in collaboration with Corporate Social Responsibility at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, organized on Monday 14 November 2016, an awareness day under the theme “Eyes on Diabetes”.

Dr. Abdulraof Almahfouz, Consultant, Section Head of Endocrinology Department, and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, stated that the goal of the awareness day is to increase the level of awareness and health education of all segments of society on the factors and causes leading to diabetes, particularly type 2 diabetes, and to highlight the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

During the event that took place from nine a.m. to five p.m., Dr. Al Mahfouz stressed the importance of seeking specialist consultation upon experiencing any of the symptoms of diabetes such as extreme fatigue, blurry vision, cuts/bruises that are slow to heal. He pointed out that diabetes may display no symptoms. He stressed the importance of conducting periodic examinations to diagnose diabetes in its early stages in order to avoid diabetes complications such as retinopathy, neuropathy and nephropathy, in addition to loss of sight and limbs in the advanced stages of diabetes.

Events of the Diabetes Awareness Day included 7 awareness aspects: Health Education, Clinical Nutrition, Dentistry, Ophthalmology, Nursing, Pharmaceutical Care and Medical Consultations.
