"KFSH&RC" organizes the 4th Worldwide Network for Blood & Marrow Transplantation Workshop & Symposium

His Excellency the Minister of Health, Dr. Tawfiq Al Rabiah, Chairman of General Organization of King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH&RC), sponsors the 4th Worldwide Network for Blood & Marrow Transplantation (WBMT) Workshop & Symposium on Sunday, January 15th, 2017 AD. The symposium is organized by the King Faisal Specialist hospital for three days, in collaboration with the World Health Organization and 15 specialized global associations, and with the participation of about 100 local and international speakers at the headquarters of the hospital in Riyadh.

The symposium presents, on its first day, the experiences of the countries of the Middle East and North Africa region, which have existing programs in the field of bone marrow and stem cells transplantation, as well as those who have constituent plans for the program in partnership with the world's leading centers in that field in Europe and America, in order to strengthen and develop their potentials and to make same participate in research and learn about the latest developments.

The symposium is divided into  8 medical workshops, during Sunday and Monday, January 15th and 16th, 2017 AD, discussing how to develop bone marrow and stem cells transplantation program in the emerging countries and the requirements needed to start such programs, and the current indicators of stem cell transplantation for adults and children, presented by specialists from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United States, Austria, Italy, China, Egypt, France, South Africa, Pakistan, Nigeria, United Kingdom, Brazil and Japan.

The symposium continues to present specialized workshops, for the second day, provided by international experts from different parts of the world discussing several topics such as; choosing the donor of stem cells and methods to verify the donation safety, training and dissemination of knowledge related to bone marrow and stem cells transplantation, training and education of nursing staff in the field of bone marrow and stem cells transplantation, methods of examining tissues, establishment of an effective quality system, and registering patient and donor and establishing a database.

The symposium addresses, on Tuesday, January 17th, 2017 AD, 5 main topics; the best source to collect stem cells, complications of bone marrow and stem cells transplantation, infectious diseases of the  transplantation of stem cells, stem cells transplantation for blood tumors patients, in addition to the stem cell transplant for diseases other than cancer.

The symposium will include an exhibition in which stem cells donor registry, and cord blood bank affiliated to King Faisal Specialist Hospital participate, in addition to several other suites where both Mediterranean and North Africa Organization for Bone Marrow and Stem Cells Transplantation and Worldwide Network for Blood & Marrow Transplantation participate.

The 4th Worldwide Network for Blood & Marrow Transplantation Workshop & Symposium is accredited by the American Academy of Continued Education and the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.

Concurrently with the symposium, a campaign for those wishing to join the Stem Cells Donor Registry will be launched during the three-days of the event in the main lobby of the oncology building and north tower building at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh.
