Overview

The physical therapy department provides both physical therapy (PT) and Occupational therapy (OT) services for the inpatient, outpatient, adult and pediatric populations of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center- Riyadh. Evaluation and treatment are offered to patients with neurological, orthopedic, arthritic, cardiac, developmental, lymphedema, women health and oncology problems. These services are provided on a daily basis from Sunday to Wednesday, 7:30am to 5:00pm; Thursday 7:30 am to 4:00pm. Weekend services are provided as needed and on previous arrangement with physicians and nurses. Physical and occupational therapy services participated in the home health care programme as required. The physical therapy service provides identification, prevention, remediation, and rehabilitation of acute or prolonged physical dysfunction or pain, with an emphasis on movement dysfunction. The PT service provides a number of take home supplies for the patients. These items include lumbar and cervical rolls, wrist splints, elbow supports, knee splints, heel and foot pads, canes, walkers, crutches, and cast boots. In addition to direct patient care, physical and occupational therapists are involved in screening conditions, supervision, administration, staff and family education and consultation. Clinical research is one of the department's objectives that aims to the increase of physical therapy knowledge and understanding based on the KFSH&RC-Riyadh mission and goals.

- First center to implement cardiac rehabilitation in Saudi Arabia.
- First center to initiate rehabilitation protocol development for liver transplant in Saudi Arabia.

1-Post Graduate training mentorship in Women's Health
2-Post graduate training in Lymphedema therapy
3-Post graduate training in musculoskeletal therapy
4-Ongoing development of manual therapy post graduate residency
5-Basic musculoskeletal development course for physical therapy interns.
6-Collaborative clinical training in cardiopulmonary therapy, and neurology for Doctoral  students in physical therapy at Prince Noura University and PT students from KSU.
