DEFINITION:
Cleaning, examining, documenting, and
reporting as necessary, any change in the catheter exit site and
surrounding skin condition.
EQUIPMENT/ MATERIAL:
2 - Surgical masks
2 - Sterile towels
1 Pair Non-sterile gloves
4 - 4x4 Gauze sponges
1 Pair Sterile gloves small/large
Adhesive Surgical dressings (Mepore)
Povidone-iodine solution
1 inch tape
Alcohol Swabs
COMMENTS:
1.
The hemodialysis nurse will provide
catheter care pre or post
hemodialysis
treatment on the day of
dialysis in Hemodialysis
Unit.
2.
On non-dialysis days, the nurse on the
floor is responsible for providing
catheter
care to in-patients if needed.
PROCEDURE
EXPLANATION
1. Put a mask on and wash hands thoroughly.
