History
The present
location of the PD Unit is the 2nd floor of the outpatient
building, which was initially attached to the Pre-admission Unit (PAU).
During this period of attachment, it was known as the Continuous
Ambulatory Peritoneal (CAPD) Unit. This name was changed to the
Peritoneal Dialysis Unit in 2002, namely to incorporate the advancement
in dialysis, i.e. Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD). The PD Unit
provides care for both adult and Pediatric patients on an outpatient as
well as inpatient basis. The client/care-givers are educated by the PD
staff in all aspects of peritoneal dialysis so as to be competent in the
independent performance of safe home dialysis. The staff is involved in
providing direct education and support (on-call service) for nursing
staff in all areas in the hospital that have PD patients.
