METHOD OF COMMUNICATION WITH
OTHER DEPARTMENTS/PROGRAMS
Internal and External Methods
of Communication
Internal
communication is ongoing and multidisciplinary. Nurses, physicians, dieticians,
social workers, lab staff, pharmacy, medical records, ultrasound technicians,
housekeeping, etc. communicate verbally to enhance patient care and maintain a
safe and clean environment. There is a bulletin board in the staff room for
written information as well as two clipboards for current memos and inservice
education.
External
communication with other hospital departments and the community usually occurs
by telephone, fax, cc mail, telex, or written memos.
Collaboration with other departments. The OB/Gyn Department holds quarterly
collaborative meetings which include physicians, nurses, medical coordinator,
OB ultrasound, case management, QRM and a secretary
The
Nursing Management Council is another method of collaboration hospital-wide. It
provides an opportunity to share new information and to discuss issues related
to patient care.
At the monthly Clinic staff
meetings, we frequently invite a guest from another hospital department to give
a brief overview of their service to the staff (i.e. Biomed, Housekeeping,
Nursing Units, Social Services, etc.)
PLAN TO IMPROVE QUALITY OF
SERVICE:
·
Increase
multidisciplinary participation in patient care.
·
Promote
Performance Improvement projects and establish this as a method of improving
patient care.
·
Enhance the
education provided to patients and their families
·
Modify physical
layout of the Clinic to improve patient flow.
