King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH&RC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London (GOSH) to build and foster a clinical, educational and research collaboration that enhances the development and delivery of pediatric services in the diagnosis and therapy of rare medical conditions.

The MoU, signed by Dr. Rashed Al Hmaid, Assistant Chief Executive Officer for Hospital Operations on behalf of H.E. Dr. Majid Al Fayyadh, CEO of KFSH&RC, and Dr. Peter Steer, CEO of GOSH, strengthens the collaborative relationship between the two institutions in the fields of clinical, educational and research pediatrics expertise.

Speaking about the partnership, Dr. Rashed Al Hmaid said, “This collaboration fits in the context of our strategic plans to build partnerships with the international medical institutions to develop world class research and specialized medical services. It will help KFSH&RC to continue its mission of becoming a regional and international leading institution in specialized healthcare taking into consideration the main hospital in Riyadh, Jeddah branch and the 300-bed new Meeqat Hospital in Al Madinah Al Munawwarah that was recently converted, upon the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques recently, to KFSH&RC as a new branch."

"Although in different geographies, both GOSH and KFSH&RC share the same goal of delivering world class healthcare, education and research to jointly accelerate a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of children in Saudi Arabia. We are delighted to be able to share this common goal with KFSH&RC," Dr. Peter Steer, CEO of GOSH, explained.

He added “We look forward to our continued collaboration to ensure that more children with rare and complex conditions in Saudi Arabia will have access to the most cutting-edge treatments available."

The two world-leading institutions will work closely to enhance the clinical service delivery of specific specialties at KFSH&RC, including cardiology, radiology and hematology, through initiatives such as visiting consultant programs and information exchange. This collaboration will ensure that both hospitals mutually benefit from hands-on clinical experience in a world-class setting.

As part of the MoU, KFSH&RC and GOSH will collaborate on various education initiatives such as the GOSH International Fellowship Programme, which will welcome postgraduate medical trainees from Saudi Arabia who are looking to gain sub-specialist expertise in pediatric care.

The MoU also highlights KFSH&RC and GOSH’s shared vision to produce world-leading research by working together to build strategic research alliances.
