Program Overview

Anatomic Pathology Residency Training Program is part of Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) joint program in Riyadh. Which is structured to build a confident practicing pathologist who provides major contribution in disease diagnoses and evidence-based roles in patient management plan.

The department is under the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, division of anatomic pathology. It is five years duration with comprehensive training in multiple rotations that include surgical pathology, cytology, electron microscopy, flow cytometry, cytogenetics/molecular pathology, and laboratory techniques.

The program at KFSHRC is known by high level exposure to variety of surgical and oncology cases, with professional supervision from qualified consultants and daily based teaching and sighing out (resident-consultant) sessions.

Anatomic Pathology is rich area for evolving medical research involving both diagnostic and therapeutic medicine. As we believe that we are fundamental and essential stone for this great institute patient care quality.

Welcome to Department of Laboratory Medicine, Anatomic Pathology Residency Training Program. We are honored to provide you this brief Program Manual that hopefully guide you in exploring postgraduate career options.



Training Structure\Rotations Map

 

Educational Activities

 

1- Morning Microscopic Slide Session (7:30-8:30 a.m.):

This is the most important and beneficial educational activity through your journey in this program. It is a daily teaching scheduled meeting leaded by one specialized consultant where he\she drive selected cases and open the discussion for diagnoses approach with trainees. The attendance is mandatory to all rotating residents.



2- Pathology Grand Round (Each Monday 8:00-9:00 a.m.):

This is a scientific activity provided by consultants of Laboratory Medicine in recent updates in certain subspecialty in Anatomic Pathology, Hematopathology, Molecular Pathology or Microbiology.

The attendance is mandatory to all rotating residents.



3- Journal Club (Each Sunday 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.):

It is a weekly activity where the assigned resident prepares a recent published article in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine journals with a supervision by pathologist.

The attendance is mandatory to all rotating residents.



4- Case Presentation (Each Wednesday 8:00-9:00 a.m.):

It is a weekly activity where the assigned resident prepares an interesting or challenging case encountered in the department with a supervision by pathologist.

The attendance is mandatory to all rotating residents.



5- Half-Day Academic Activity (Once monthly 12:00-5:00 pm):

This activity gathers Riyadh Pathology residents\consultants monthly for scientific lectures and microscopic slide teaching sessions through the academic year. The day and time are announced by Riyadh program chief resident and the attendance is mandatory to all residents.
