Program Information

Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery residency program at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre provides superior surgical and medical training. It is well recognized for the breadth of experiences and tremendous tertiary care opportunities it provides the residents, placing the Hospital at the forefront of most programs in Saudi Arabia. In addition to medical education and research, it is the department’s mandate to provide exceptional surgical training through a large volume of surgical cases.

The main objective of the training program is to develop specialists in Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery. This program prepares the residents for either academic medicine or community practice by learning from extensively experienced staff that teaches management concepts of head and neck oncology, skull base surgery and neurotology, otology, and laryngology. The program includes one year of general surgical training and four years of specialty training in otolaryngology. Residents are given graduated responsibility, culminating in senior resident experiences during the PGY4 and PGY5 periods. The training program is very well organized and supervised, accommodating the needs of residents who have subspecialty interests or desiring to explore particular aspects of the specialty. Some of the academic activities and educational methods of the program usually include weekly and monthly didactic conferences: grand rounds, pathology conferences and radiology reviews that are in addition to regular daily and weekly clinical and case-based teaching.
