Program Information

Pharmaceutical Care Division

The Pharmaceutical Care Division at KFSHRC-Jeddah is committed to providing the highest level of care to ensure safe, efficacious, and cost-effective utilization of medications and optimize patient outcomes. Education and research are essential components of our mission as well.

The Division consists of three departments: Medication Safety/Clinical Support Pharmacy (Clinical Services), Medical/Critical Care Pharmacy (Inpatient Services) and Ambulatory Care Pharmacy (Outpatient Services).

Our Inpatient Practice model is in line with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Practice Advancement Initiative, with decentralized services and headed towards a comprehensive practice model. Our Clinical Pharmacists are an established cornerstone within the medical team and provide Inpatient as well as Ambulatory Care clinical services.

The inpatient distribution system is decentralized utilizing the latest Automated Dispensing Cabinets technology, and Smart Pumps and Bar Coded Medication Administration are underway. Our physician order entry is computerized both in the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Purpose:

PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) or Bachelor in Pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions and eligible for postgraduate (PGY2) pharmacy residency training and board certification.

King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre pharmacy residency program vision is to graduate highly skilled and knowledgeable advanced pharmacy practitioners to assume direct patient care positions in certain pharmacotherapy specialties according to the best practice and international standards.

Mission

  • To support the overall pharmacy mission to provide patient care, educate, and conduct research.
  • To produce capable and adaptable practitioners through focused intensive clinical post-graduate training in a variety of patient-care environments.
  • To develop expertise in optimal medication use and safety, foster professional integrity, and promote effective teamwork to provide optimal pharmaceutical care.
  • To create effective practice leaders and educators that are capable of proactively identifying, analyzing, and initiating process improvements.

 

Program Details:

  • Residency Duration: 24 months (12 months for R1 and 12 months for R2)
  • Available Positions: Five seats
  • Starting/End date: October 1st – September 30th



The first year of the residency program (R1): is a systematic approach that will provide the resident with opportunity and stimulus to develop skills, competencies, and professional expertise in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice. It incorporates all practice areas into different modules

The second year of the residency program (R2) will provide the resident with the opportunity to develop skills, competencies, and professional expertise in hospital pharmacy practice, with special emphasis on clinical services and practice management.

Special Requirements for Acceptance

Graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy, Saudi citizenship, eligible for pharmacist licensure in Saudi Arabia within 3 months of starting the program, and passing of an admission examination and an interview. Applications submitted must include academic transcript, curriculum vitae, a 1-page letter of intent, and 3 letters of recommendation.
