The department of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology (ICHE) aims to increase the awareness about infection control practices and measures for health care workers, patients and visitors by making it a part of their daily practice. In addition to supporting KFSH & RC (gen org.) value of safety by preventing and reducing the risk of acquiring or transmitting Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI). Furthermore, assist the hospital management in maintaining the regulations accreditation requirements such as JCIA and CBAHI, and ensure compliance with national and international regulations.
Scope of Service
1- Guidelines and Policies:
• Develop and implement evidence-based guidelines and for the purpose of reducing HAI and Antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
• lead and controls hospital clusters or outbreaks of HAI & resistant organisms among patients and personnel.
2- Education and Training:
• Responsible for all educational related activities and resources as well as participates in research and performance improvement activities.
• Increases the awareness of the employees, patients and their families regarding communicable diseases and HAI, by providing comprehensive educational program.
3- Surveillance:
• Adopt and practice scientific comprehensive method of measuring outcomes and related processes of care, analyzing the data, and provide information to members of the healthcare team to
• assist in improving those outcomes.
• Ensure the accuracy of data collection and definition of criteria, analysis of administrative and clinical surveillance data and reports.
• Measure the incidence of infections and pathogenic organisms to monitor antimicrobial susceptibilities.
4- Environmental Health:
• Promote for a safe and sanitary environment through the contribution and recommendations in construction, renovation and maintenance projects.
• Ensure safe environment for the prevention of HAIs.
• Monitor and improve the quality of air, water & food in the facility to promote a safe and sanity environment.
