Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) Programs:

The Undergraduate Medical Education provides medical training services; it works to interpret and implement policies that apply to clinical training programs and their trainees. It targets many universities around the country and coordinates to accept visiting medical students for several types of clinical training, in addition to the affiliation with Alfaisal University.

 

The UGME currently offers the following clinical training for medical students and medical interns:

  • Full time medical education affiliated with Alfaisal University.
  • Pre-intern clinical elective / short time training.
  • Summer elective training.
  • Clinical research training.
  • Medical internship training.

 

What you need to know before you apply:

 

  • The UGME is committed to providing a superior clinical educational experience under the supervision of our dedicated faculty members and based on the criteria of undergraduate medical education committee for medical students.
  • Training slots are very limited to be in accordance with both the UGME academic standard and criteria. Consequently, admission will be granted in a fair and transparent manner.
  • Submitting your application does not mean that you are accepted.
  • A holistic review process is followed by UGME system to review applicants’ profile. Accordingly, you will get notified on your application status and the action taken via emails; in addition to sending notifications to your university coordinators.
  • Applicants will receive the final decision on their application via electronic notification message after a period of two weeks from the last day of the submission.
  • Applications before or after the submission period will not be considered.
  • Paper applications will not be considered.
  • Additional requirements might be required such as interviews with the concerned department.
  • Weekends and official holidays are not counted during the process.
  • Visiting the hospital’s undergraduate medical internship coordinator office directly is not allowed. Concerning any further matters, please contact your university coordinators.

2017 Significant Achievements of Undergraduate Medical Education:

  • The Undergraduate Medical Education section successfully launched UGME online application and business process management automation system for internal and external users within hospital portal. The launching of the new online admission system hits its target of 100% online applications which in return reduced costs by transitioning to paperless system and reduced processing steps and days, process steps decreased to 81%; and 90.9% users recommended the same system for other services and programs provided within the hospital (see attached final launching results).

 

  • The Undergraduate Medical Education office has successfully conducted its 6th Annual Medical Students Orientation, Training & Registration Program for 2017; targeted number was (607) medical students.

 

  • The undergraduate medical education section of ATA met JCIA criteria in Medical Professional Education in collaboration with Alfaisal University. As a result, it successfully earned the hospital JCI accreditation as Academic Medical Centre for the 2nd time which covers the period of 31 March 2017 to 30 March 2020.

  

 

Fulltime Medical Education Affiliated with Alfaisal University for Medical Students

The affiliated medical schools are to communicate the following information directly to UME hospital coordinator (3-4) months prior to starting Academic Year of medical education via email:

  • Academic year calendar
  • Selected programs and objectives.
  • list of medical students including (names, GPA & contact information)
  • Medical student’s rotations and any other related documents in order to seek UME committee’s approval.

Upon undergraduate medical education committee’s approval of number of students in individual departments, UME will communicate the accepted medical students to medical school.

Terms:

  • Medical Student should complete the Health care check list form
  • Medical student should complete the hospital orientation training program (upon acceptance).

Pre-Intern Clinical Elective Training/ Short Time Training/ Summer Elective Training for Medical Students

In order to apply for elective training for end year (pre-intern) or summer training, medical schools are to communicate the following information directly to UME-hospital coordinator via email:

  • List of selected medical students for elective pre-intern clinical training/ short rotation/ or request letter for summer training including names, GPA, rotation & period of training.
  • Program of the rotation for electives, evaluation and attendance sheet
  • GPA/Academic Transcript for students

Terms:

  • Pre-intern and short mandatory elective training are allowed for 4th and 5th
  • Summer elective is allowed for 3rd and 4th  
  • Summer Training Period must be 4 weeks in order to receive the certificate and it should not overlap with the month following it.
  • medical student should be Saudi.
  • Medical student’s GPA should be good or above.
  • Medical student should complete the Health care check list form before applying.

Clinical Research Training for Medical Students/ Interns

Upon the recommendation of the clinical research mentor from medical departments of the hospital, medical students are allowed to participate in clinical research.

The following requirements must be submitted by medical student (1) month prior to clinical research assignment; in order to seek approval of the Undergraduate Medical Education office for clinical research training:

Medical Internship Training for Medical Interns

After graduation from a recognized medical school, the student is required to successfully complete a 12-months rotation in clinical services. This year of rotation is called “Internship”, a pre-requisite to an honored medical degree.

 

Terms:

  • Medical intern should be Saudi.
  • Medical Intern has to be graduated with GPA V. Good or above, submit grade’s transcription.
  • Medical Intern should complete the Health care check list form before applying.
  • Medical intern should complete the Hospital registration orientation training program (upon acceptance).
