In continuation of King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center's (KFSH&RC) mission to provide superior, innovative and world-class healthcare, the Section of Urology Surgery in KFSH&RC, Jeddah has successfully launched the Robotic Surgery Program using the Da Vinci Xi® Robotic System for urology oncology and reconstructive surgeries. Da Vinci Xi® Robotic System is the state of the art in the robotic surgery technique, which started in December 2018. It has been used in several surgeries, in which partial or total Resection of renal tumors and reconstructive surgeries of ureter were performed.

Utilizing robotic surgery which is the latest development in the field of endoscopic surgery and treatment of kidney, ureter, bladder and prostate tumors as well as congenital malformations in the kidney and ureter, achieves precision in the ablation of tumors and positive results in shorter recovery of patients by the urology team: Dr. Adel Alammari and Dr. Mahmoud Al-Aqraa.

It is worth mentioning that KFSH&RC had established urology endoscopic surgery using scopes and small incisions. This program has succeeded in conducting hundreds of successful surgeries. In addition, utilizing the robotic surgery program for the treatment of the kidney and prostate tumors has increased the chance of healing more complicated cases with better results for the resection of tumors with higher precision and more benefit for the patient in several aspects, the most important of which are:

  • Reducing the hospital stay of the patient.

  • Mitigating the patient's pain, as the surgical incision by the robot is smaller.

  • Reducing the risk of infection.

  • Reducing the need for blood transfusion.
