About

The Department of Surgery is renowned for providing quality patient care and high standards of comprehensive surgical training, services, and original research. The department comprises six units: orthopedics, plastic, urology, ENT, ophthalmology, and general surgery, including laparoscopic, transplant, breast, hepatobiliary, vascular, pediatric, colorectal, upper gastrointestinal, and endocrine surgery. Each of these sections works in collaboration and harmony to provide integrated services to the community at large. The department provides continuous professional development and continuous education and training to its staff.

  Scope of Service

1- General Surgery:
The section divides the workload according to the individual surgeon’s expertise i.e Laparoscopic Surgery, Hepatobiliary and Surgical Oncology, Lower GI and Colorectal Surgery, Upper GI and Endocrine Surgery



2- Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery:
The section deals with repair and reconstruction and/or replacement of physical defects that involve the skin, the musculo-skeletal system, the cranio-maxillo facial structures, the hands, the feet, the breast and the trunk.



3- ENT/Head and Neck Surgery:
The service comprises both general ENT Surgery, including airway reconstruction and head & neck surgical oncology. All types of head & neck tumors are managed in the combined head & neck clinic. Special services provided by the section include but not limited to laryngeal surgery, skull base surgery, airway reconstruction plus the audiology services and speech therapy, and endoscopic sinus surgery.



4- Vascular Surgery:
This section deals with all acute and chronic vascular problems both peripheral and central. It is supported by modern imaging equipment and techniques, Doppler ultrasound and MRA as well advanced interventional vascular procedures like angioplasty and intra-vascular stenting.



5- Orthopedic Surgery:
The section performs state of the art orthopedic procedures in the most modern standards. The section had contributed greatly to the introduction of new innovative techniques like simultaneous bilateral knee replacement and other arthroplasties, like hip and elbow, spinal surgery is frequently performed. Adults and Pediatrics reconstructive surgery is frequently performed as well as sports medicine and shoulder surgery.



6- Urology:
This section provides state of the art service for the community. It sees all referral adults and pediatric urologic disease including urological oncology, neurogenic bladder and voiding dysfunction, endourology, andrology and congenital and reconstructive urological surgery.



7- Pediatric Surgery:
This section works in good coordination and harmony with the Pediatric department. It provides services for both neonates and children covering both elective and emergency procedures.



8- Pediatric Oncology:

The section performs both open and laparoscopic surgery for its patients.



9- Ophthalmology Surgery:
The section is well equipped, and it provides special services that cover cornea and anterior chamber, retina, laser therapy, pediatric ophthalmology and neuro? It also includes Optometry and Ophthalmic Photographer services.



10- Transplantation Surgery (Kidney):
This service is performed in close collaboration and integration with the Nephrology Department and the Vascular Surgeon who sometimes help in creation of difficult long term vascular access. Patients with end-stage organ disease (kidney) who would eventually need solid organ transplantation are accepted under this section.
