King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) is proud to announce the launch of its first-of-its-kind pharmacogenomics clinic. This innovative clinic is dedicated to augmenting the recently introduced pharmacogenomics testing, which went live in September 2023, marking a strategic expansion of the Pharmacogenomics Service to ensure its effective utilization.
In a single visit, the clinic offers a unique environment where patients receive structured education about their genetic test results and how these results impact their past, current, and potentially future medications. Through a collaborative practice agreement, recommendations are made jointly with the patient’s primary care provider (the referring physician), enhancing the likelihood of timely and practical adoption in clinical practice.
The clinic has been established in collaboration with the Internal Medicine Department and the Pharmaceutical Care Division and is operated by a specialized pharmacogenomics clinical pharmacist. The pharmacogenomics clinical pharmacist provides consultations that integrate pharmacogenomics with pharmacotherapy expertise to improve the clinical implementation of pharmacogenomics for referred internal medicine patients.
In alignment with KFSHRC’s values, the clinic is committed to delivering excellent, patient-centric care by integrating patients’ unique genetic test results with clinical factors, as well as their goals and preferences, to provide pharmacotherapy recommendations tailored specifically to each individual.
