Research 3

The Bioengineering and Nanomedicine (BNM) Department aims to lead in the development of nanotechnology for diagnostic, therapeutic and biomedical device applications. It is focused on biomarker discovery, molecular diagnostics and rapid test kits for cancer, genetic diseases and infectious diseases. BNM is creating targeted drug and RNA delivery systems, mRNA nanovaccines, biomaterials, and organoid systems. It is bioprinting unique devices as clinical tools, medical implants and wearable systems.

Achieve translational impact, and successful commercialization of new inventions

List of sections

Drug Delivery and Nanovaccine
Our goal is to establish effective delivery of drugs and genes (especially RNA oligonucleotides) for the treatment of cancers and genetic diseases. This will be achieved through the use of functionalized nanoparticles and tailored ligand conjugations. We are also developing mRNA nanovaccines for a variety of viruses and cancers.

Biomaterials and Organoids
Our interest is to create biomaterials as synthetic cell culture substrates, 3-dimensional organoids for drug screening and in vitro toxicology, tissue grafts, and implants. We are generating novel materials for antifouling and antimicrobial applications.

Biomedical Devices and Systems
We aim to design and bioprint unique structures as biomedical tools, devices and implants. They are engineered with nanocomposite and nanoporous materials for tailored mechanical properties for implantable or wearable systems.
