Summary

Manages, coordinates and/or participates in all aspects of installation, final testing, continuous proper operation, and retirement for all capital and non-capital imaging equipment while following International accreditation standards in Radiology Department. Participates in new purchase assessments and acts as project coordinator for the site preparation of new equipment. Plans, implements, maintains and evaluates the Equipment Quality Control Program for the Department.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1.Manages all of the imaging equipment and all ionizing imaging equipment in Radiology Department.

2.Helps, develops and manages the Radiology Department Quality Control Programs and Equipment Database

3.Participates in site evaluations for installation of new equipment and in selection committee for the procurement of new equipment.

4.Prepares RFP (Request for Proposal) documents for the bidding of new imaging equipment. Acts as the vendor contact person for the department.

5.Works with the appropriate departmental parties, coordinates all building modifications, changes, and additions. Helps to develop site plans, and assumes liaison role between the departments, vendors, Project Management Department, or outside contractors as appropriate.

6.Arranges appropriate testing procedures with Health Physics and Imaging Physics for newly constructed areas and new equipment installations prior to clinical operation. Coordinates the testing and inspection of all radiation protection devices (i.e. lead aprons, gonadal shields).

7.Arranges appropriate testing procedures with Imaging Physics during annual Quality Control (QC) testing, new tube installation, and troubleshooting if required.  Ensures all Quality Control testing on all x-ray equipment is performed on a regular basis as specified by the Sectional QC Manual.  Ensures that equipment is maintained within required JCIA accreditation standards.

8.Ensures that the Radiology facility is maintained and serviced according to established standards and schedules. 

9. Assists with the preliminary diagnosis of equipment problems within imaging modalities, taking equipment out of service as required and/or coordinating preventive maintenance and/or corrective actions with the relevant manufacturer or Clinical Engineering to ensure continued operation, resolution and/or closure, decreased downtime and compliance of maintenance guidelines.

10.Leads the implementation, monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement (CQI) standards for imaging with the Department to optimize image quality in each modality.

11.Provides group leadership for elected Section QC Representatives: oversees and ensures that all equipment QC testing is performed on a daily, weekly, semi-annual or annual basis including any record keeping of these tests from the sections.

12.Analyzes and interprets collected data, by collaborating with Physics, to recommend action plans and to ensure radiation risk and detriment are minimized.

13.Prepares/submits reports and/or memos identifying equipment performance problems, vendor support issues and offers prioritized recommendations for correction to appropriate body.

14.Serves as one of the JCIA coordinators within the department by developing a plan/methodology to assure that the department is in compliance with all equipment and environment JCIA regulations.  Recommends corrections or modifications as appropriate (i.e. periodic departmental audits).

15.Serves as the Radiology Safety Officer.  Works with the Hospital Safety Committee to ensure compliance of all safety regulations as assigned.

16.Maintains documentation for equipment/imaging QA procedures/protocols/programs.

17.Coordinates stationary grid testing, testing & cleaning of CR phosphor imaging cassettes, PACS monitors, post processing monitors, repeat/reject analysis as well as technique charts for all general imaging areas.

18.Provides a consultative and/or equipment testing service to other departments within the institution and externally as assigned.

19.Participates in Clinical Engineering/Radiology meetings, Equipment Purchasing meetings, Quality Control Workgroups, Continuous Improvement (CQI) workgroups and other related Equipment meetings or in-services as assigned.

20.Initiates/coordinates the process for demonstration equipment trial requests and gate pass “in” and/or “out” for equipment, spare parts, tools, etc.…

21.Initiates appropriate work requests to UMD (Utilities and Maintenance Department) via Oracle System. Accepts and follows up on all EEAR (Electronic Equipment Acceptance Report) concerning radiology.

22.Participates in self and others education, training and development, as applicable. 

23.Follows all hospital related policies and procedures

24.Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Radiological Sciences/Radiologic Technology for Saudi Nationals or Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology program (minimum 2 Years) for non-Saudi is required

Experience Required

Four (4) years of experience in an acute care hospital including two (2) years of experience in equipment QA role or any related discipline in a senior capacity, with documented leadership abilities with Master’s Degree or six (6) years of similar qualifications with Bachelor’s Degree/Accredited Program is required.

Other Requirements(Certificates)

-- Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist or equivalent. 

-- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) or any related Healthcare Quality certificate preferred.

-- Specific certification in the assigned section preferred.
