Program Information

We would like to thank you for your interest in the critical care pharmacy residency program at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Our Post Graduate Year three (PGY-2) program is under the auspices of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS). The Pharmaceutical Care Division is the place of the first ASHP accredited PGY-1 and PGY-2 residencies outside the United States.

The program’s exceptional outstanding multinational staff and practitioners, state-of-the-art informatics, automation and robotics, and clinical services have undoubtedly made it the leading pharmacy residency program in the Middle East and have produced successful residency graduates with exceptional skills and work ethics. Mission Statement:

Individuals who complete a critical care pharmacy residency shall be qualified independent practitioners who are able to provide pharmaceutical care in various environments. They shall be responsible for drug therapy outcomes as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary health care team in critical care areas. Such pharmacists shall be able to develop their own personal plan for professional development. They shall be able to educate other professionals and patients about medications. Pharmacists completing this program will be capable of conducting their practice with a high level of maturity and leadership.

Purpose:


PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of critically ill patients with a wide range of conditions, and eligible for critical care board certification.

Residency Special Features:


PGY-2 critical care pharmacy residency program is one year of training starts from October and ends on September of each year. During this year, each resident will have a ten different clinical rotations (7 core rotations, and at least 2 elective rotations), each 5 weeks. This will allow the resident to develop skills, competencies and expertise in all aspects of critical care pharmacy practice. The specific program for each resident varies based on the residents’ interests and previous experience.

Residents Responsibilities:


Pharmacy residents are required to pass all scheduled rotations, deliver formal presentations/journal clubs, complete a research project, complete a medication utilization evaluation (MUE), attend clinical and departmental meetings, and participate in other in-services, on-call, and clinical activities as assigned.
