Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology Department Riyadh

Introduction:

The Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology Department (ICHE) at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC), in collaboration with the Training and Development Department, is committed to training interns for three months.

 

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of the program, each intern should be able to provide comprehensive infection prevention and control services that meet the hospital's objectives with supervision:
• Respond to surveillance of infections based on the infection control surveillance plan for assigned inpatients and ambulatory care units.
• Work with staff in the clinical setting to identify patient care requirements concerning infection prevention and control.
• Provide education for healthcare workers (HCWs), visitors, patients, and their families on infection prevention and control needs.
• Monitor individual compliance with existing infection prevention and control policies, criteria, or regulations.
• Be aware of the process of communicating communicable disease statistics to the Ministry of Health (MOH) on a weekly and monthly basis and in cases of certain infections (e.g., MTB, MERS-CoV, COVID-19, etc.) epidemics daily according to the policy.
• Perform rounds to all patient care and non-patient care areas for case findings and supervision of environmental factors.
• Introduce all necessary measures to prevent the spread of infection or organisms highly resistant to antibiotics.
• Collaborate with other members of the Outbreak Control Team in investigating epidemics of infections.
• Perform appropriate follow-up of employees who have unprotected exposure to diseases for which specific protocols exist.

 

Duration:

• Three (3) months

 

Acceptance Criteria:

• Internship request letter from intern’s sponsor
• Saudi national or born to a Saudi mother 
• A GPA of 3.75 out of 5 or 3 out of 4 and above
• English Proficiency Exam (TOEFL iBT) score of 84 and above, or equivalent
