Introduction:
Radiology is the science that deals with the use of radiation for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes in medicine. Radiologic technologists, or radiographers, are the terms applied to individuals qualified to use radiation sources to produce images of the parts of the body for interpretation by a physician known as a radiologist.
The Radiology Department includes the following sections: General Radiography (X-ray), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasonography (US), Nuclear Medicine (NM), and Interventional Radiology (Angiography and Fluoroscopy).
At the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC), the Radiology Department provides the interns with the opportunity to integrate academic knowledge along with the clinical practice through a detailed program for each section. The Radiology department internship-training program requires students to undergo a full extensive year/six months of hospital training after completing their 4-year degree. For one (1) year and six (6) months rotations, the internship program will include all sections: General Radiography (X-ray), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasonography (US), Nuclear Medicine (NM) and Interventional Radiology (Angiography and Fluoroscopy). Additionally, interns with a one-year rotation are eligible to choose one section among these modalities as a subspecialty.
