Introduction:

Radiology is the science that deals with the use of radiation for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes in medicine. Radiologic technologists, or radiographers, are the terms applied to individuals qualified to use radiation sources to produce images of the parts of the body for interpretation by a physician known as a radiologist.
The Radiology Department includes the following sections: General Radiography (X-ray), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasonography (US), Nuclear Medicine (NM), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and Interventional Radiology (Angiography and Fluoroscopy). At the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC), the Radiology Department provides the interns with the opportunity to integrate academic knowledge along with the clinical practice using a detailed program for every section.
During the one (1) year rotation in General Radiology, the internship program will encompass all sections, including General Radiography (X-ray), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasonography (US), Nuclear Medicine (NM), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and Interventional Radiology (Angiography and Fluoroscopy).
During the one (1) year rotation in Diagnostic Radiology, the internship will include:  General Radiography (X-ray), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Interventional Radiology (Angiography and Fluoroscopy).
During the one (1) year rotation in Nuclear Medicine specialization, the internship will include: Nuclear Medicine (NM) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET).
During the one (1) year rotation in Interventional Radiology specialization, the internship will include: General Radiography (X-ray), and Interventional Radiology (Angiography and Fluoroscopy).
For the six (6) month rotation in Ultrasound specialization, the internship will include: General and Vascular Ultrasound.

Objectives:

• Read the request form, receive the patient, check patient ID, and preparation.
• Introduce themselves and explain the procedure to the patient, take a consent form if needed, prepare the room, equipment, accessories, and supplies.
• Select the proper technique, position the patient for the requested examination, give appropriate instructions, select appropriate technical parameters, ensure radiation protection and capture diagnostic images. (under supervision).
• Process the image and access its acceptability or rejection with a radiologic technologist.
• Inform the patient that the examination is complete, and provide after care instructions if needed, and collect necessary information.
• Upload the images to the system and maintain records of the procedures.
• Record details of examination in the clinical logbook, initialed by the supervising technologist (for some universities).
