The Department of Dentistry aims to engage in clinical practice, teaching, research, continuing education, medical outreach, public awareness programs, and by providing consultative service to other hospital departments and outside institutions.

 

Overview of Services Provided

The Department of Dentistry at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre provides oral and maxillofacial health care for the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, offering comprehensive tertiary dental care, including state-of-the-art preventive and restorative/cosmetic dental care for inpatients and outpatients, as well as for eligible healthy outpatients. As available, remaining clinic time is utilized to provide primary dental care for Hospital employees and their dependents. The department also operates the walk-in emergency dental clinic in the Family Medicine/Polyclinic area, the Satellite clinic at KFN&CCC, and Health Maintenance Clinic in Level 1 of the King Abdullah Center for Oncology and Liver Diseases (KACOLD) provides team members to the Hospital’s Cleft Lip & Palate, Orofacial Disorders in Bone Marrow Transplant and Head and Neck Tumor/Oncology teams.

Scope and Complexity of Patient Care Needs:

• Obtain health history for all patients and update it annually.

• Provide dental clearance for all patients going for critical medical/surgical procedures (organ transplant, chemotherapy, etc.

• Combined clinics with other services to provide better quality care (head & neck, cleft lip & palate, orthognathic surgery, etc).

 

Other Essential Information:

The Department of Dentistry at KFSH&RC is the first and only institution to acquire state of art-technology like 3D digital solutions program, CAD/CAM, and 3D printing technology. This cutting-edge equipment’s revolutionized surgical patient care treatment with computer-aided design systems, such as:

• Virtual planning and designing for surgical treatment /procedure

• 3D printing surgical stints for patient care

• CAD/CAM technology (Ivoclar Wieland) will add positive technical solutions to the hospital patient care services

• 3D medical camera and intra-oral camera for impression

• 3DMD cameras for complicated ortho cases

• R4 Patient Management program 

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC) is a major referral center for head and neck tumor tertiary care patients, whereby the Dentistry department leads in the area of special care dentistry. The Dentistry department is also the leading center for cleft lip & palate and craniofacial anomalies, Orthognathic and oral-maxillofacial surgery in the Kingdom. Furthermore, the department is accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), which is a testament to the first-rate quality of dental services delivered to patients.
