Mehenna Arib

Dr. Mhenna is a Senior Health Physicist and Head of the KFSHRC Secondary Standards Dosimetry Laboratory (SSDL), with extensive expertise in the calibration of radiation measuring instruments and ionizing radiation dosimetry for radiotherapy, diagnostic radiology, and radiation protection. He is an internationally recognized expert in medical physics, radiation protection, radiation safety, and the establishment, implementation, and auditing of ISO/IEC 17025 quality management systems.

Dr. Mhenna currently leads initiatives to enhance the calibration and measurement capabilities of the KFSHRC SSDL by expanding its accredited services and improving measurement accuracy and traceability. His work is dedicated to advancing dosimetry standards to ensure more accurate radiation dose delivery in radiotherapy, improve dose measurements in diagnostic radiology, and strengthen radiation protection practices, ultimately contributing to safer, higher-quality patient care and occupational radiation safety.

Dr. Arib holds a Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering (Radiation Protection) and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Sciences. His career began in 1990 at the Nuclear Research Centre of Algiers under the Algerian Atomic Energy Commission. He served as Head of the Secondary Standards Dosimetry Laboratory (SSDL), Chairman of the Medical Physics Department, and Director of the Radiological Physics Division before joining King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) in 2015 as Head of the SSDL.

With more than three decades of leadership in radiation metrology and medical physics, Dr. Arib has completed over thirty international expert missions as an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and World Health Organization (WHO) consultant and expert. His contributions have supported countries in conducting feasibility studies, designing and establishing Secondary Standards Dosimetry Laboratories (SSDLs), training medical physicists and radiation metrologists, and implementing ISO/IEC 17025 quality management systems.

From 2020 to 2025, Dr. Arib served as a member of the IAEA/WHO SSDL Network Scientific Committee, contributing to the review and advancement of global dosimetry activities. He is also an active member of GULFMET’s Ionizing Radiation Technical Committee, where he provides professional training, organizes regional intercomparison exercises, and supports metrology initiatives across the Gulf region.
