Program Information
The Medication-Use Safety Policy (MUSP) Pharmacy Residency Program at KFSRHC is a twelve-month program of training and experience based upon the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) standards for specialized hospital pharmacy residencies. The program is designed to develop specialized practitioner with advanced skills in the practice of medication-use safety, formulary management, and drug information services.
The resident will participate in advanced drug information and medication safety activities such as patient safety initiatives, medication errors and adverse drug reaction evaluations, medication–utilization evaluation, management of drug shortages, policy development, and investigational and non-formulary medication processes. The resident will have the opportunity to participate in teaching, hospital medication safety committees and Formulary and Therapeutics Committee and conduct pharmacy research project.
The residency program can be customized for each resident based upon the residents’ interests and previous experience. However, all residents are required to complete rotations in core subject areas considered to be essential to the specialized pharmacy practitioner. By the conclusion of the residency, the graduates will have the experience, clinical and facilitation skills to assess in the organization’s medication-use practices and be prepared to establish practice as specialist in formulary management, drug information and drug-use policies.
Program Structure
The 12-month of the residency program is a systematic approach that will provide the resident with opportunity and stimulus to develop skills, competencies, and professional expertise in all aspects of drug information and medication-use safety and policy pharmacy practices. The program consists of 9 learning experiences; seven (7) core rotations and two (2) elective learning experiences, each consist of 5 weeks. The elective learning experiences are developed based upon individual resident’s interest, goals, and selected career path. Several longitudinal learning experiences will be provided throughout the training program.
