Leukemia - Lymphoma Section


Under general direction, Senior Consultant may perform difficult professional medical work that requires advanced and specialized education, training and experience and may assume a coordinating or leadership role with respect to his or her department of service and the specialty area.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

*Clinical Responsibilities

1.Performs clinical duties and actively engages in clinical practice.

2.Provides high quality of medical care to patients in accordance with the standards laid down by KFSH&RC (Gen. Org.). Assumes responsibility for patients under his care.

3.Works in multidisciplinary team to bring a multimodal approach to complex patient problem.

4.Assists the Chairman in ensuring that Quality Improvement Programs are implemented.

5.Performs specialty procedures, conducts ward rounds and shares on-call rota as required.

6.Develops unique and/or essential clinical programs.

7.Maintains relevant clinical experience, privilege and licensure.

*Academic Responsibilities

1.Directs and advices junior staff on patient management especially in the area of specialization.

2.Guides and actively participates in the training and teaching of Residents, Fellows, Assistants, Consultants and other junior staff of the department.

3.Actively participates in the educational activities and training programs of the department.

4.Promotes the provision of Postgraduate Training Programs, Continuing Medical Education activities and other required educational and training courses.

5.Develops new courses or special teaching materials for the junior staff.

6.Actively participates in national and international conferences and outreach programs.

7.Actively participates in the editorial board of reputable journals and serves on national/international scientific advisory boards or study sections.

8.Keeps abreast with the latest techniques and developments, especially in the field of sub-specialty, following and implementing them on a selective basis to improve technical standards. Applies knowledge, creativity, expertise and new technology in the advancement of the quality of work in KFSH&RC (Gen. Org.).

*Research Responsibilities

1.Leads and promotes in clinical, basic and translational research projects and publishes papers in accordance with Research Advisory Council Policy in order to advance knowledge, improve the quality of post graduate education and contribute to the national and international recognition of KFSH&RC (Gen. Org.).

*Administrative Responsibilities

1.Serves as a representative of the specialty program or service, as assigned.

2.Assists and/or initiate the development and implementation of policies, methods and procedures within the department, as requested by the Department Chairman.

3.Recommends and implements appropriate environment facilities and strategies for ethical safe relevant and state of the art assigned specialty. 

4.Develops and implements strategies for effective and continuing review of the professional performance of assigned specialty, as requested by the Department Chairman.

5.Supports and enforces the policies associated with Medical & Clinical Affairs.

6.Participates in department /unit specific and Hospital wide quality improvement. May develop and implement quality improvement activities in the specialty area, as assigned.

7.Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.

8.Participates in self and others’ education, training and development, as applicable.

9.Performs any other related duties as assigned.


Graduation from an accredited medical school, completion of required period of training in specialty and/or subspecialty, with Arab or American Board certification, membership and/or fellowship status in the United Kingdom and/or Canada or their equivalent.

Experience Required

Completed twenty (20) years of experience as a consultant of distinguished service at KFSH&RC (Gen. Org.) or one with an exemplary record in a prestigious institution. He/she demonstrates an evidence of continued dedication and contribution to the hospital, exemplary skills in leadership and/or management, post-graduate teaching and research and showed an outstanding clinical care.
