Dr. Tarek Amin receives "TAKREEM" Award for scientific and technological innovation

Dr. TAREK AMIN, a Chief Oncology Surgery Consultant at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh (KFSH&RC), received "TAKREEM" Award for scientific and technological innovation for all his scientific and medical achievements.

Dr. TAREK AMIN was honored among nine honorees in several fields during a huge ceremony recently held by "TAKREEM" Arab achievement Awards in Cairo with the presence of 800 personalities of intellectuals and writers from around the world.

TAKREEM Arab achievement initiative aims, through its founder Mr. RICARDO KARAM, at highlighting Arab figures who excelled their achievements in the fields of culture, education, environmental science and humanitarian work as well as social and political development.

TAKREEM Award is one of many awards already received by Dr. Tarek Amin; such as KFSH&RC Honor Award for "Outstanding Performance in Surgery and Treatment of Tumors", Honor Award from ALFAISAL University in Riyadh, as well as Appreciation Award of ALFAISAL University for helping students at the Faculty of Medicine in researches thereof.

Dr. AMIN is considered a pioneer in the field of Surgical Oncology at the Region level, as he is the first surgeon performing gallbladder removal by Endoscope at KFSH&RC in 1986. He also founded the multi-specialties breast surgery program in the late eighties.

Dr. AMIN developed many leading programs, such as Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT) for the surgery of advanced cancer, which are the largest of their kind in the region. Dr. TAREK AMIN combined such two programs in the treatment of certain cases of advanced cancer. The number of patients who were treated in this way is the highest in the world.

Dr. TAREK AMIN dedicated great attention for training specialized personnel, since he trained many Saudi specialized surgeons, under the KFSH&RC leading role as a training center, at the national and regional level, in the field of surgical oncology and patient healthcare.

Dr. TAREK AMIN is the first Saudi chairing the KFSH&RC Department of Surgery in 1998. He worked as a visiting surgeon, a specialist in liver transplant and an Associate Professor at Pittsburgh Presbyterian University; also, he worked at Children's Hospital in USA during 1990-1991.

It is worth noting that the prominent Saudi figures participate within TAKREEM Award Discretionary Board, which includes Professor SAMAR HAMOUD, Consultant of Colorectal Surgery, Her Royal Highness Princess AL BANDARI BINT ABDUL RAHMAN AL-FAISAL, SHEIKH SALEH AL TURKI and Dr. NOHA HEJAILAN, who all participate within TAKREEM Arbitration Board to choose the winners. TAKREEM Award 2016 included prominent figures such as Queen NOOR AL HUSSEIN, SHEIKHA MAI AL KHALIFA, DR. LAKHDAR BRAHIMI, CARLOS GHOSN, DR. FARIDA ALLAGUI, ENG RIAD SADIQ and the businessman ISSA ABU ISSA.
