Dr. Zohair Al Halees, Senior Cardiac Surgery Consultant at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh (KFSH&RC), received "TAKREEM" 2017 Award for Scientific and Technological Innovation for all his scientific and medical achievements. He was honored among nine honorees in several fields during a huge ceremony recently held by "TAKREEM" Arab Achievement Awards in Amman, Jordan last 25 November 2017, gathering Arab personalities from the region in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Noor Al Hussein and members of the Royal family of Jordan.

TAKREEM Arab achievement initiative aims, through its founder Mr. RICARDO KARAM, at highlighting Arab figures who excelled their achievements in the fields of culture, education, environmental science and humanitarian work as well as social and political development.

TAKREEM Award is one of many awards already received by Dr. Zohair Al Halees such as Distinguished Scientist Award from Almarai Company in 2003; the King Abdulaziz Medal of Honor First Degree by late King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz in 2008; Al Moftaha Award presented by His Royal Highness Governor of Aseer Province in 2009, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished Personalities in the Arab World in 2014; KFSH & RC Medical and Clinical Affairs Diamond Award for Research in 2015; Saudi Commission for Health Specialties Honorary Higher Certification in Specialty Cardiovascular Surgery in 2016.

Dr. Zohair Al Halees is one of the most prominent and advanced cardiac surgeons in the Arab World. Astonishingly, he has performed over 20,000 major heart operations on adult and pediatric patients. His enduring passion remains to serve children with heart problems, mainly from underprivileged backgrounds. His current focus is on congenital heart effects incidence and outcomes in Saudi Arabia.

His reputation for helping the poor, desperate and needy outshines his reputation for having extremely skilled hands. Much of his professional activities have centered on King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, where he helped establish the Cardiovascular Diseases Department. Under his tenure as Director, the center has evolved into the prestigious King Faisal Heart Institute (and now Heart Centre), the region’s premier cardiovascular treatment facility. He was also appointed as adjunct professor at Al Faisal University and American University of Beirut Medical School.

He has performed live demonstrations of cardiac procedures from the operating room to the audience at national and international symposia he has participated in. Dr. Al Halees sits on various editorial boards of leading peer-reviewed cardiac publications, and was one of the founders of the World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Tarek Amin was given the same prestigious award last year in Takreem 2016 held in Cairo, Egypt, which only distinguishes KFSH&RC in high esteem with its notable and remarkable physicians.
