King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH&RC) has achieved Stage 7 of HIMSS Analytics Outpatient Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (O-EMRAM) through Family Medicine Riyadh for the second time. This is after undergoing a revalidation process with HIMSS Analytics to maintain its Stage 7 status, which is the highest accreditation for the best utilization of health information technology in healthcare.

The Chief Information Officer of KFSH&RC, Dr. Osama Alswailem, stated that the O-EMRAM revalidation highlights KFSH&RC's achievement towards the adoption and interoperability of its Integrated Clinical Information System (ICIS). O-EMRAM is intended for organizations where there is an encounter between a caregiver and a patient, and the caregiver is licensed to assess, diagnose, treat, prescribe and generate orders and documentation.

He also added that the O-EMRAM tests for clinician documentation, including orders, e-prescribing, patient engagement, external health information exchange, population health analytics and disaster recovery in the hopes of improving patient outcomes and achieving a near paperless environment.

In 2015, KFSH&RC was the first organization outside of North America to reach Stage 7 of HIMSS Analytics Outpatient Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (O-EMRAM) through Family Medicine Riyadh. Stage 7 is the highest accreditation given to an organization or section for the best utilization of health information technology in healthcare. Accreditation needs to be revalidated every 3 years.
