Dr. Shook is the chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Texas Children’s Hospital and Professor of Pediatrics and Head Section of Emergency Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. She is also the Chief Safety Officer at Texas Children’s and is a Patient Safety Fellow of the American Hospital Association. In 2010, she also assumed the role of Physician Leader for the Epic electronic health record implementation for the Texas Children’s Hospital Integrated Delivery System. She also is Adjunct Professor of Administrative Science at Rice University in the Jones School of Business Administration. Dr. Shook has been active in design and development of trauma system in the state of Texas having served on the Governor’s Emergency and Trauma Advisory Council since 1990. Dr. Shook has been active in many organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics where among other roles, she was the chair of the Section of Emergency Medicine Executive Committee from 2004-2005. She is a nationally known expert in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Patient Safety and is a frequent speaker nationally and internationally on many subjects related to these areas of expertise.
