Overview

Dr. Syed Islam is a Scientist at KFSHRC and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Alfaisal University. Dr. Syed received post-doctoral research training at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) Research Centre, Toronto, Ontario. The treatment of cancer can be individualised and enhanced with the development of prognostic and predictive biomarkers, thereby improving survival rates and treatment outcomes.

Dr. Syed's research focuses on identifying the hallmarks of prognostic and predictive biomarkers by investigating tumour biopsies and circulating cell-free DNA. Using AI, machine learning and bioinformatic tools, this research could transform the discovery of novel biomarkers and targets, paving pathways for more aggressive and effective cancer treatments.
