Overview

Dr. Yufei Shi is a Principal Scientist and team leader at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He received his M.D. degree from Xi'an Jiaotong University Medical School, China, in 1983 and subsequently completed fellowship training in Molecular Endocrinology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), in 1990.

Dr. Shi has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has made significant contributions to the fields of molecular endocrinology, thyroid cancer biology, and human genetics. His current research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying thyroid cancer progression and metastasis, and hereditary disorders of phosphate and bone metabolism, including hypophosphatemic rickets.

Fields of Expertise

Molecular genetics of thyroid cancer

Transgenic models of thyroid cancer

Multiomics analysis of thyroid cancer metastasis genes

Rare genetic disease research

Precision medicine and targeted therapeutics

Career Background

Dr. Shi has more than 20 years of experience in molecular oncology and human genetics research. Prior to joining KFSHRC, he held research positions at the University of California, San Francisco, USA, and Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, Throughout his career, he has been actively engaged in translational biomedical research, with particular expertise in endocrine disorders, cancer biology, and human genetics.

Dr. Shi has established At KFSHRC a research program focused on elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying thyroid cancer initiation, progression, and metastasis. His work integrates genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and functional approaches to identify key signaling pathways, therapeutic targets, and prognostic biomarkers associated with aggressive thyroid cancers. He has also made significant contributions to the understanding of congenital hypothyroidism and hereditary metabolic bone disorders, including hypophosphatemic rickets, through the application of advanced molecular and genomic technologies.

Dr. Shi has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications and collaborates extensively with national and international investigators in the fields of molecular endocrinology, oncology, and medical genetics. His research has contributed to advancing precision medicine approaches for endocrine cancers and rare genetic diseases, with the goal of improving disease diagnosis, prognostication, and targeted therapeutic strategies.
