Goals / Objectives: 

• Describe the differences between healthcare acquired pneumonia and community  acquired pneumonia.
• Determine the role aspiration plays in the development of pneumonia.
• Explain the factors necessary for the development of pneumonia in those who  aspirate.
• List and define the three necessary factors that must be present for bacterial pneumonia to develop.
• Identify and assess clinical information and findings that help determine the potential for bacterial pneumonia to develop associated with dysphagia.
• Formulate clinical intervention strategies to reduce or prevent the potential for bacterial pneumonia development from dysphagia.

Target Audience:  Speech Language Pathologists, Medical Physicians, Nurses
