In the esteemed presence of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Khalid Al-Faisal, Deputy Governor of Madinah Region, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Madinah has entered into a strategic partnership with the Madinah Diabetes Charity Association, "Sukar" The agreement seeks to advance the early detection of diabetic complications, particularly diabetic retinopathy, through the adoption of cutting-edge technologies. This initiative aims to improve treatment opportunities, mitigate disease-related complications, and enhance the quality of life for diabetic patients.
Under the terms of the agreement, KFSHRC will treat cases of diabetic retinopathy, one of the leading causes of vision loss. This initiative addresses a growing healthcare need in the Kingdom, as recent statistics reveal that 18% of the population is affected by diabetes, with a significant proportion developing complications such as retinopathy.
The collaboration will focus on unified efforts to deliver advanced preventive solutions, including specialized healthcare services adhering to the highest medical standards. It will also involve organizing workshops and training programs for medical and technical teams to improve their ability to manage target populations. Additionally, the agreement underscores the importance of raising public awareness about the risks associated with diabetes.
KFSHRC in Madinah, equipped with 400 beds, serves the local community and surrounding areas. It specializes in pediatric and adult oncology, ophthalmology, and obstetrics and gynecology, and holds 14 training accreditations across various medical and nursing disciplines.
It is noteworthy that KFSHRC has been ranked first in the Middle East and Africa and 20th globally in the list of the world’s top 250 Academic Medical Centres for the second consecutive year and has been recognized as the most valuable healthcare brand in the Kingdom and the Middle East, according to the 2024 Brand Finance rankings. Additionally, in the same year, it was ranked among the world's best 250 hospitals and included in the World’s Best Smart Hospitals list for 2025 by Newsweek magazine.
