King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) has been honored with the Princess Adelah bint Abdullah Award, in the Scientific category, in recognition of its Stem Cell Donor Registry initiative in Saudi Arabia. The initiative aims to engage the community in improving public health by encouraging individuals to donate, accelerating the matching process between donors and patients, and ensuring those in need of stem cell transplants receive timely and appropriate treatment.
Since its inception, the initiative has successfully built a donor database of over 75,000 registered donors, facilitated 171 successful donations, and conducted 112 awareness campaigns, spanning 729 days with the participation of nearly 4,000 volunteers. This reflects the initiative's impact in fostering community solidarity and raising awareness about the vital role of stem cell donation in improving patients' lives.
This recognition highlights KFSHRC’s efforts to enhance treatment opportunities for patients with leukemia and genetic disorders by expanding access to donors and providing advanced therapeutic solutions. These efforts contribute to improving success rates and reducing patient wait times, aligning with the hospital’s vision to be the preferred healthcare provider for specialized medical care.
KFSHRC has achieved remarkable recognition by being ranked 20th globally on the list of the world's top 250 academic medical centres for the second consecutive year. Newsweek magazine recognized KFSHRC among the world's best 250 hospitals and included it in the World's Best Smart Hospitals list for 2025.
