A Structured Postdoctoral Training Program for Advancing Scientific Excellence
About the Program
This program is designed for recent PhD holders who are seeking quick yet comprehensive professional advancements in their future research-related careers.
This full-time research position will be offered across two key centers at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC), Riyadh:
- Genomic Medicine Center of Excellence that engages translational research and development activities with a special emphasis on genomic medicine.
- Research and Innovation Department that focuses on basic research activities in various fields. Postdoc fellow will work with a research group under the supervision of a Principal Investigator (PI).
The fellow will have the opportunities to perform research, collaborate on multi-scholar research initiatives, or even may have lead responsibilities for discrete components of a larger research project or program.
Research Focus
The research fellows will primarily work in areas of national interest that will be followed by KFSHRC according to the nation’s guidelines and strategic priorities as outlined in Vision 2030, and National Biotechnology Strategy (NBS). The candidates will be able to develop their research career with a special emphasis on genomics, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, personalized medicine, nanotechnology, and digital health under Vision 2030. The KFSHRC offers a highly conducive environment for advanced research and translational programs under its cutting-edge laboratories and research facilities.
Eligibility Requirements
- Saudi and GCC citizens, and international applicants
- All applicants should provide a financial sponsorship letter from their institutions
- Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., biomedicine, biotechnology, clinical research, and medicine) within the past five years.
Application Requirements
- Single-page cover letter including a description of the applicant’s research experience and his/ her research interests
- Curriculum vitae including a list of publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Copy of official academic transcripts
- Proof of English proficiency and excellent oral and written communication skills in English (minimum IELTS overall score of 7.0 with no element below 6.5, or minimum TOEFL IBT score of 100/120)
- Three letters of confidential recommendation from Ph.D. advisors and research collaborators
- Financial Sponsorship letter
Selection Criteria
A competitive review process will be conducted to select fellows based on the following criteria:
- Academic record and performance (from a recognized institution)
- Research experience (published papers, conference presentations, international collaborations and other scientific activities during or before PhD)
- Strength of the research proposal aligned with the hospital's research priorities
- Applicants must demonstrate a strong academic record, research experience, and a passion for scientific discovery.
- Creative and self-motivated personality with an interest in fundamental and applied science are desirable features for the applicants.
- Evidence of strong communication inclusive of advanced writing, speaking skills, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Specific qualifications related to the announced project such as software analysis, computational skills, experience in specific biochemical tests, and knowledge and skills of various molecular methodologies

Selection Process
Following the positions opening announcements, the Application forms/ requirements should be submitted through the Genomic Medicine Center of Excellence and Education & Training Office at KFSHRC- Riyadh, to be reviewed by the Scientific Selection Committee which will include the PI. The applicants will be called for an interview. Successful candidates will be informed by their PI.
Program Duration
The fellowship program will be for a period of two years with the possibility of exceptional situation that will be mainly based on performance and projects’ need.
An extension request by the supervising PI should be submitted to Academic and Training Affairs (ATA) and the Fellowship Program Committee Office for review and approval.
Performance Evaluation
- Annual performance evaluations will be conducted to assess the fellows' progress and ensure that they are on the right course and meeting and fulfilling the program’s expectations.
- Evaluations will be based on research productivity, participation in professional development activities, and contributions to the scientific community.
- Fellows are expected to demonstrate continuous progress and a high level of commitment to their research and goals throughout the program.
Upon Completion of the Program
Trainees upon completion of the requirements of the program will be awarded with a certificate of completion.
