Program Information

The residency program is composed of 24-months. The first year is systematic approach that will provide the resident with opportunity and stimulus to develop skills, competencies, and professional expertise in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice; including drug information and medication-use policies. The second year is designed for the resident to develop experience in acute care and ambulatory practice environment. The residency program can be customized for each resident based upon the residents’ interests and previous experience. However, all residents are required to complete rotations in core subject areas considered to be essential to the pharmacy practitioner.

By the conclusion of the residency, graduates will be prepared to establish practice as a clinical pharmacist. Further, they will possess the tools and skills needed to provide optimal patient care, participate in clinical research and publishing, and serve the pharmacy profession through education and committee work.

We would like to thank you for your interest in the pharmacy residency program at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Our Post Graduate Year one (PGY1) program is under the auspices of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). The Pharmaceutical Care Division is the place of the first ASHP accredited PGY1 and PGY2 residencies outside the United States.

The program’s exceptional outstanding multinational staff and practitioners, state-of-the-art informatics, automation and robotics, and clinical services have undoubtedly made it the leading pharmacy residency program in the Middle East and have produced successful residency graduates with exceptional skills and work ethics. The entire pharmaceutical care division feels fortunate to be associated with a wonderful environment enriched with opportunities for pharmacy practice.


Program Structure: 

Vacation, Official Holidays and Other Leaves:

The residents are only allowed to utilize up to 40 days of leave days (30 days annual and 10 days as Eid holiday). For more details please click here, refer to sick leave /leave of absence/ unpaid leave for postgraduate medical training provided by A&TA in addition to SCFHS regulation.
