Summary

Assists inproviding medical care in the field of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology andsupervises interns and residents, in accordance with current medical staffbylaws, rules and regulations and the Hospital’s policies and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

ClinicalResponsibilities

Assists the Consultants inproviding required patient care and management in the field of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology,in accordance with standards of medical care laid down by the Hospital.

Studies and performs assessment,examination and the compilation of a case history and assists in the diagnosisand management of the patient in accordance with criteria listed in diagnosticmanuals such as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual.

Registers detailed medicalhistory, conducts a thorough physical examination and creates a plan forpatient management and follows-up for discussion with the Consultant.Subsequently, records the consultant’s orders, progress notes and other requireddocuments for outpatients.

Provides on-call coverage fortheir specialty on a rotational basis during evenings, nights, weekends andpublic holidays.

Prepares for and participatesin consultant and specialist ward rounds as per policy.  Documents findings in medical records.

Follows up on investigationresults for outpatients and modifies treatment accordingly. 

Attends specialty clinics,outpatient clinics, and shares on on-call schedule as per requirements.

Performs other clinicalresponsibilities, as assigned.

AcademicResponsibilities

Provides orientation, bedsidetraining and supervision of interns, residents and fellows as assigned.

Keeps abreast of all the latesttechniques and developments, especially in area of specialization.  Implements them on a selective basis toimprove technical standards.

Participates in theeducational activities and training programs of the department.

Participates in national andinternational medical conferences.

ResearchResponsibilities

Participates in clinical,basic and translational research projects and published papers in accordancewith Research Advisory Council Policy in order to advance knowledge, improvethe quality of post graduate education and contribute to the national andinternational recognition of the Hospital.

AdministrativeResponsibilities

Undertakes the administrativeduties assigned by the Section Head or Chairman of the department.

Participates in all mandatory departmentalactivities and serves on departmental and Hospital committees, as required.

Assists the department in thedevelopment and implementation of techniques and practices that help maximizethe utilization of all resources within the department and across the Hospital.

Abides by the current Hospitaland medical stall bylaws, all relevant rules, regulations and policies andkeeps updated of any changes that might occur.

Participates in self-andothers’ education, training and development as applicable.

Follows all Hospital-relatedpolicies and procedures.

Performs other related dutiesas assigned.

Education

Graduation from a medicalschool in good standing, completion of required period of postgraduate trainingin a specialty and/or subspecialty, with Saudi/American Board or Canadian/UKcertification, or equivalent as outlined by the Medical Staff CredentialingCommittee.

Experience Required

Two (2) years of training inspecialty and subspecialty plus post-training experience required.
