Transplant Nephrology

The Transplant Nephrology fellowship at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre is accredited by the American Society of Transplantation (AST). As such, it is the first and only program outside North America to receive such prestigious accreditation.  It is a one-year training program and candidates should be board eligible in Adult Nephrology. In accordance with AST fellowship training guidelines, the curriculum involves training of fellows in the work-up of renal transplant candidates and living kidney donors, the postoperative care of renal transplant recipients, the proper usage of immunosuppressive medications and prophylactic antimicrobials, and the outpatient care of renal transplant recipients.

The scope of services offered by the program will ensure fellow’s exposure to the full spectrum of kidney transplantation starting from the simple living donor kidney transplant at one end, to the more sophisticated ABO/HLA incompatible transplants on the other end. The wealth of clinical material and the existing resources will provide the fellow with excellent opportunities for basic and clinical research.
