Our focus is in line with the overall organizational goals of achieving cutting edge research in the fields of Genetics, Oncology and personalized medicine in addition to strengthening clinical research. 

Our mission is to be a Centre of excellence in biomedical research. We are dedicated to the advancement of science, and the translation of research findings into better health care. We strive to provide an environment that enhances individual growth, collaboration, achievement and recognition.

We are committed to the enhancement of knowledge of disease by pursuing advanced research activities in five areas: cancer, genetics, environmental health, cardiovascular and infectious diseases, using a multidisciplinary approach. The Centre's direct affiliation with the King Faisal Specialist Hospital provides perfect opportunity for scientists to collaborate with clinicians to identify research priorities and to translate laboratory findings into improved patient care.

We are dedicated to the enhancement of intellectual growth and professional development through a program of scientific activities as well as involvement in graduate and postgraduate education. We strive to provide competitive and stimulating environment that nurtures ambition, productivity, and teamwork.

Significant Achievement

Clinical Research Division

  • New services developed:
    • Research Affairs. The main function of Research Affairs is to make sure about compliance, assurance and processing of research proposals submitted to IRB.
    • Registration of KFSH&RC-J at clinical
  • Out of 63 studies, 32 (51%) studies have been supported by Clinical Research Coordinators in 2017. Twenty six studies are still on-going, and the rest six studies have been completed.
  • The Research Consultation Clinic performed 25 consultations including Research Methodology and Pathway, Statistical Analysis and Reference Manager.
  • Performance Improvement:
    • Pilot PI Project Survey on Challenges Facing Staff if they consider conducting Research.
    • IRB Performance Monitoring Project aiming to reduce the average time from the principle investigator’s submission of a completed IRB application to the initial IRB response to the principal investigator by at least 10%
  • Education of Hospital Staff including:
    • Introduction to JMP Course. The workshop was attended by 51 participants from 10 different hospital departments.
    • Introduction to RedCap Course. The workshop was attended by 49 participants from 10 different hospital departments.
    • Collaboration with Pediatric Department in “ Clinical Research Step by Step" one day Interactive workshop".
    • Hospital Grand Round: “Current Research and Diagnostic Applications in Oncology” and “Disease Diagnosis: A Molecular Perspective”.
    • Advances in Medical Writing, the Research Centre has offered 10 slots in a medical writing course with 6 audiences.
    • The educational activity Focus On The Target, The EFGR Story From Research To Practice.
    • Statistical methods in Community Medicine Course for Community Medicine Saudi Board Candidates.
  • Role of CRC in Education and Training:
    • Outside KFSH&RC :
      • Participation in the grand round of the College of Nursing at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Science “Meta-Analysis: Statistical Perspective,.
    • Inside KFSH&RC:
      • Five students from Umm Al-Qura University, the training periods ranged from 2- 14 weeks.
      • One medical student from USA has trained for one month.
      • One intern student: 9 months from Princess Nourah University (ongoing).
    • The IRB reviewed 63 proposal in 2017, which include in-house and industry studies, as well as retrospective chart reviews from the different medical departments in the hospital.
    • A total of 77 research articles from various departments were published in prestigious scientific and international Journals.

Laboratory Research Division

  • Lab Technical Achievements
    • There are five Ongoing Laboratory based studies.
    • Two abstracts presented international in a scientific meeting; Washington DC, USA, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
    • SHGP: contribution to SHG by 119 samples.
    • Research Centre Jeddah is second among a SHG Center.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Six trainees have been trained in Laboratory.
