Redefining Cardiac Care in the Middle East KFSHRC Successfully Performs Five TPV Replacements

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC) has successfully performed five pulmonary valve replacements using the advanced Harmony Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve (TPV) procedure. This innovative approach offers a viable alternative to open-heart surgery, marking a significant advancement in cardiac care within the region. It serves as a testament to the hospital’s commitment to redefining the overall patient experience by successfully minimizing recovery periods and shortening hospital stays.

This procedure is novel in the Middle East, and it specifically addresses individuals with heart valve diseases and congenital heart defects, which were previously untreatable through conventional catheterization techniques. Typically, these patients had to undergo open-heart surgery, entailing a prolonged recovery period of three months before returning to regular activities. Notably with TPV, patients, aged between 12 and 34, were discharged within 48 hours.
