Summary

Performs administrative, managerial and professional work providing leadership, directing, planning, and organizing activities for assigned pharmacy sections. Formulate policy and institute models that promote medication safety in all aspects of the medication management process in assigned pharmacy sections.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Assists the Director of Pharmaceutical Care in organizing and administering the Hospital Pharmacy programs. Ensure the Director of Pharmaceutical Care is informed of all matters relating to Pharmaceutical Care and its activities.

2. Oversees the management and use of medication error information in assigned pharmacy sections. Review internal error reports and utilize information from external reporting programs (e.g. ISMP Medication Safety, MOH, and Saudi FDA).

3. Manages medication-error reporting, review, investigation to determine root cause, and data entry into database in collaboration with area manager. Analyse data and determine trends for process improvement, develop the required measures to eliminate the likelihood of occurrence or recurrence of errors.

4. Directs, administers and coordinates the pharmacy functions in his designated areas; supervise key personnel to assure completion of work assignments, personnel management and adherence to policies and procedures.

5. Participates in all hospital committees related to medication safety and medication adverse occurrences, and assist in setting annual goals for medication safety improvement.

6. Responsible for dissemination, interpretation and practice of departmental and hospital policies, procedures, regulations and information.

7. Reviews departmental operations for effectiveness with the use of computer print-outs for labour distribution and productivity analysis.

8. Directs, assists and resolves problems encountered by area managers, in assigned pharmacy sections, in the development of objectives, physical facility, equipment and supply needs, personnel, organizational structure, work distribution and operational processes.

Education

Pharm D. / Master’s Degree in Pharmacy and Pharmacy Residency program from an accredited College of Pharmacy after completion of Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy is required.

Experience Required

Ten (10) years of related experience in a tertiary care setting, including four (4) years of experience in Senior/Supervisor or Managerial capacity in a large, complex hospital, health care institution or related health care organization with Pharm D. / Master’s Degree is required.

Other Requirements(Certificates)

  • A strong background in clinical pharmacy practice coupled with pharmacy operations responsibilities is preferred.
  • A general or specialized pharmacy residency or equivalent experience in an integrated health system is preferred.
