King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH) in Riyadh has earned Level 1 accreditation for cataract surgery from the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM), recognizing its use of clinical outcomes and patient feedback to advance care.
The accreditation recognizes KFSH's implementation of ICHOM's standardized cataract measures in routine clinical practice. Patients report how their vision affects daily life before surgery and within three months after it, while the clinical team records visual acuity, refractive outcomes and complications. Together, these give a complete picture of clinical results and their real impact on patients' lives.
The program is part of KFSH's efforts to extend patient-reported outcome measurement to other clinical services and sites, helping to identify gaps in care, evaluate treatment interventions and set improvement priorities based on patients' own experience.
ICHOM is a nonprofit organization that develops standardized, patient-centered outcome measures to help healthcare providers assess and improve their services. Its accreditation is among the clearest indicators of a commitment to value-based healthcare.
